also we will talk about what is kelvin temperature scale and how we can use it to achieve a perfect white balance.so yeah lets began,
what is white balance
since we known that there are many different kinds of light which vary from temperature to temperature so you camera needs to know what color is a true color so it uses white balance to do this.the camera compare the light with true white so that the different colors will get corrected or in the saturated state.
the white balance is a process to tell your camera sensor what is the True white in your scene or photo.i know you are bit confuse by these sentences but when in your place i also got confused so lets make it simple white balance is just a processor or way to tell your camera that what is the true white in your photo or scene so that it can manage different other colors.
with our new digital camera this process of setting up white balance is done by the digital camera automatically we call it auto white balance mode (AWB) auto white balance is very accurate then our manual setting of white balance but in some condition where lightning is so different then normal case auto white balance give up and do not perform well.
so if you want to setup white balance manually then you need to understand about the kelvin temperature scale which can be used to setup white a perfect white balance manually.

the kelvin temperature scale is a temperature scale that tell us at what white balance or temperature your in kelvin how your scene or image will be look like mean that if the white balance is around 1000 kelvin then the image will look more cooler rather then looking neutral

the lower number on the kelvin scale are more cooler in nature as compared to the temperature number which are higher n value
as the temperature increased the kelvin or color temperature scale become warmer in color this is due to the temperature of image as you increase the temperature of your image color seems to be more warmer.

auto white balance
as the name suggest auto white balance is automatic way by which your camera automatically select the white balance according to the condition of the scene.
as the name suggest custom white balance mode needs the help of your to select what should be the white balance of your camera.yeah now in simple and sweat language by custom white balance you can manually adjust your camera white balance by providing the right temperature.
as the name suggest this mode can be used to take photos in day light when the temperature is about 5000 kelvin.
this mode is used to take picture inside the house or indoor due to its color temperature 7000 kelvin.
this mode is used to take pictures in cloudy conditions it color temperature is 6000 kelvin.
as the name tel us this mode is used to click picture under tungsten light condition when the temperature is around 3200 kelvin.
white fluorescent light
this white balance mode is used to click pictures under the white light conditions when the white is really looking true white this has color temperature of 4000 kelvin.
this white balance mode is used to click pictures when you are using your camera or other type of flash it has color temperature reading of 5500 k-6000 k
