we all dream to take the professional looking images that has a quality shallow depth of field so yeah in this article today we are going to just covering this topic only which is how to get shallow depth of field or in simple words how to get a blur background and one more simple word (yeah now you are frustration)or how to get bokeh.
if you are confused in bokeh and blur background then you are doing good yeah it is really confusing so bokeh is just we call the quality of blur not the blur background bokeh decides how professional your image is looking and the blur
is just a blur yeah.so now let’s continue with our article on ways to get a blur background
why shallow depth of field
we all known or if you don’t known that there are two types of blur which are shallow depth of field and wider depth of field
in shallow depth of field the object/subject is just in focus and the background and other things around the object/subject is out of focus but in wider depth of field there is nothing in focus everything including background are in focus and there is lesser amount of blur or infocus part present on the image.
most of the professionals photographer consider a quality shallow depth of field or bokeh as a good sign of professionality in your photography because you already known how good the image is looking when there is a quality bokeh present on the image so yeah shallow depth of field is a great way to increase you photo attraction
you can see the below images how quality the photographer has shown in their by bokeh or shallow depth of field:
now lets jump onto the topic of how to get shallow depth of field
how you can get the best shallow depth of field
there are numbers of way to achieve a quality blur, bokeh or shallow depth of field we will try To cover most of them
that means you will get the in depth knowledge of how to achieve a quality blue so yeah let’s finally start
the first we will talk about the lens which type and around which focal length
telephoto is the best lens to take best possible shallow depth of field shots due to its ability to less converge the rays
so that the image will be most compressed as of size and the object will be looks like that it is more nearer to the
camera as of in wide angle lens the converging capacity of lens is hin due to this the more part of scene is captured by it.
now what about the focal length if you are in the photography you already known and on the above paragraph i have only
written about this only
yeah the more telephoto size of focal length or the more your focal length greater you lens will be telephoto and the best for achieving a quality shallow depth of field or quality bokeh.
now about the aperture of your lens if you have lens of any focal length that is good but if you are considering a new lens consider buying one with a smaller number aperture value because smaller the value
of your aperture higher will be the shallow depth of field on your image.
now let’s talk about some good practise to get a quality shallow depth of field or bokeh
decreasing your aperture value
aperture plays an important role for achieving a quality blue in you photo so yeah you have to play with aperture as
above we have discussed that your lens aperture should be fast or in simpler language smaller the value of your
aperture greater will be the blur so yeah consider buying a lens when has a fast aperture so that you can achieve
a quality blur.
set your camera to the aperture priority mode and take your aperture value to the minimum as possible and other things the camera will decide like shutter speed and ISO.
now other thing you should do achieve a blur background is that move your subject/object further away from your background so that there will be enough space crated within you subject and background so that your camera will just focus on you subject and the background will be much in a shallow depth of field.
the other things you can do to achieve a quality blur is that try to zoom your in using your zoom lens if you have a
prime lens so you cannot do this
so try to zoom in you subject and if possible move slightly backwards if the subject is not on the frame.
if your object is running or doing some type of motion
and still you want to blur your background which is not easy to do in this case
try to match your camera motion speed as the speed o you object/subject.if you can do this in a right full manner then your image will be look more a blur image in which the object is just in focus and everything is in out of focus.
using software and apps
there are many different apps and software which helps us to increase the shallow depth of field or increasing the blur of the background they are so helpful if you have a pre captures image and you wanted to make it more good so you can add blur to it
some software and apps
for mobile devices i use snapseed for getting a blur in my image
for desktop i use photoshop for getting a deeper depth of field.
